Say hello to Julie, our dedicated Passenger Assistant and Cleaner

As a family-run business of over 20 years, we thought it was about time we introduced some of the SC Travel team!

Having been with us practically since the beginning, there’s no one better to kick off this #MeetTheTeam series than Julie, who recently celebrated her 21 year work anniversary here at SC Travel.

About Julie’s role

Julie splits her time at SC Travel between being a Passenger Assistant on our accessible school runs, and Cleaner for our fleet of vehicles. This variety is something which she really enjoys.

“I feel like I’m able to make an impact in both of my roles. The cleaning, for one, makes me proud and satisfied with maintaining the high quality of our vehicles.”

Something that’s really important for all of our passengers to experience is the feeling of being in good, safe hands when they travel with us – and having an expertly clean vehicle is definitely integral to that.

“In my other role as a Passenger Assistant, I love the fact that I’m able to make a difference and help the children we look after to be happy and comfortable when they go to school.

Not only do we help them get to school safely, but we also get to know them really well. Having the same group of kids each week is important to that – we’ve developed some really good relationships and that’s made a huge difference to their comfort and happiness when travelling with us.”

Q: What did you do before joining SC Travel?

A: I used to work as a Care Assistant before I met John and Susan Connolly, who at the time had not long started SC Travel, and offered me a role that would be able to better fit around my 2 years old daughter.

They were right, it was a much better fit working as a Passenger Assistant, working the hours that suited me and my work-life balance.

Q: Outside of work, what do you like getting up to?

A: I am very much family-oriented, and spend most of my free time with my grandchildren. Aside from them, I also like to see my friends and just relax when I can!

Q: What’s been one of your proudest moments in life?

A: Probably the fact that I’ve been at SC Travel so long. That stability has enabled me to almost be like a family friend to the company, and watch it grow and change over the years.

All about our accessible taxi features and services

At SC Travel, we’ve been proudly supporting Chesterfield, Derbyshire and its surrounding areas with accessible taxi and transport services for over two decades.

As one of the first wheelchair accessible taxi services to be established in the Amber Valley area, our mission is clear: To provide proper, safe and professional accessible transport.

This is what SC Travel was founded for by Sean Connolly, our family business’ founder. Having been a taxi provider across the country for many years, Sean was unhappy with how little accessible transport was available in the Amber Valley and wider Derbyshire area. So, he decided to establish SC Travel – a trusted transport provider for all.

Since then, we’ve been Derbyshire’s chosen accessible transport provider, trusted by the likes of Chesterfield College, Ash Lea School and Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Main features of our accessible vehicles

Our fleet of accessible vehicles can cater for up to 19 seats and 5 wheelchairs, with some including wheelchair accessible W/C access.

These features make our taxi services ideal for school runs, day trips and almost every outing in between for those with accessible needs.

Our team of upskilled drivers

All of the drivers here at SC Travel are given comprehensive training in safeguarding, disability awareness, first aid and passenger assisting.

This training ensures that we can provide taxi services that are not only accessible, but safe and responsible for our passengers – ensuring that you can be at ease on your SC Travel journey.

Where we travel to

Based in Alfreton, Derbyshire our accessible taxi services at SC Travel extend across Chesterfield, Ripley, Clay Cross, Mansfield, Derby, Nottingham and pretty much anywhere in between!

We also travel across the UK for airport transfers, which can be 100% accessible through our variety of vehicles.

What does a professional chauffeur do?

Although defined as “a professional driver tasked with getting clients to their destination by motor vehicle”, at SC Travel, we know that a professional chauffeur is much more than that.

As a Derbyshire-based private hire minibus transport service that offers both premium and personal customer service, our professional chauffeurs are at the heart of executive travel at SC Travel.

A somewhat underappreciated career choice, professional chauffeur drivers are experts within their roles – dedicated to providing safe, comfortable and luxurious transportation for a wide variety of passengers and travel occasions.

In this short blog, we’ll be going through exactly what professional chauffeurs do, as well as what qualities our drivers hold here at SC Travel.

1. Drive smoothly

First and foremost, a professional chauffeur’s responsibility is to make their passengers’ journey as smooth as possible.

Whilst this may seem obvious, driving smoothly extends not just to the driver’s ability to drive well on the road, but also to their ability to ensure that their passengers are comfy and at-ease in their journey. With our wide range of executive vehicles, this involves keeping an eye on air-conditioning and heating, as well as ensuring a quiet environment for those looking to enjoy their travel in peace – especially if they’re on the way to an important business meeting.

2. Route planning

Planning routes in advance is key to a professional chauffeur’s role. Taking into account traffic timings, roadworks and everything in between, drivers can ensure that they make their passengers’ journey the best it can possibly be – on-time, reliable and efficient.

3. Provide a helping hand

An integral part of the SC Travel ethos is ensuring that our team of professional chauffeurs are not just reliable, but friendly, trustworthy and willing to go the extra mile (literally!).

Whether this be by helping passengers with their luggage or waiting for them whilst they stop off on their journey, we aim to build valuable relationships here at SC Travel. In getting to know the drivers and building that trust, our passengers feel totally at ease with their travel.

4. Maintain the vehicle

From weekly safety checks to an in-house team of specialist mechanics, vehicle maintenance is essential to the responsibilities of a professional chauffeur.

At SC Travel, we not only provide premium executive travel, event transport and airport transfers, but accessible travel, too. This is an incredibly valued service within our communities, and so maintaining its quality is absolutely essential. Our professional chauffeurs are responsible for this, as well as being specialist-trained in disability and first-aid awareness.

Why book an airport transfer?

As a private minibus transport service with almost 20 years of experience in the game, we take great pride in serving our local communities here at SC Travel.

Located in Alfreton and operating across Derbyshire (and beyond!), one of our most popular transport services at SC Travel is airport transfers.

For many people, driving to the airport themselves is the most common option for transport. However, as we all know, travelling abroad is rarely a stress-free experience – and that’s where airport transfers come in. A way to relieve that stress, provide reliability and start holidays off on the right foot, airport transfers are often an underestimated service!

In this blog, we’ll be going through exactly what airport transfers are and what their benefits are, and answering the all-important question of why you should consider booking an airport transfer for your next holiday.

So, what is an airport transfer?

In essence, airport transfers are where a chauffeur is hired to take you, your family, friends or employee to the airport for their upcoming flight, as well as pick you up from the airport, taking you back to your destination.

Often used for family/friend holidays, stag dos, hen dos and executive travel, airport transfers are particularly popular for VIP or group trips. However, they are also ideal for people who won’t drive themselves or own their own car.

Why do people book airport transfers?

Airport transfers take the stress away from airport travel. At a time when you should be most at peace, airports can be extremely stressful. With airport transfers, this stress can be relieved, allowing you to relax and enjoy your holiday straight away.

However, booking an airport transfer isn’t just about stress-relief. It also provides reliability, comfort and luxury – which is especially ideal if you have an overseas business meeting you need to get to on-time, and in-style!

For groups, airport travel can also work out to be much more cost-effective than driving yourselves. Depending on your group/family size, you may need to take several cars to the airport, thus using more fuel and purchasing several airport car park tickets – which are reportedly, in some cases, becoming more expensive than flights. Airport transfer costs, on the other hand, are a set price that can be split amongst the group members – enabling people to manage their travel expenses much more efficiently.

About SC Travel’s Airport Transfer service

Another benefit of airport transfers is that your driver is more than likely going to know a lot more about the route than you would if you drive yourself.

At SC Travel, our drivers are frequently out and about driving passengers to airports across the UK. This means that they know all the latest changes with roadworks, traffic congestion and the airport navigation itself.

Whilst we’re based in Derbyshire, we travel across the country to a wide range of airport destinations:

  • East Midlands
  • Birmingham
  • Manchester
  • Leeds/Bradford
  • Heathrow
  • Gatwick
  • Luton
  • Stansted
